SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION


Student teachers summarize what you had done during your practicum according to topics as follows:

Purposes of practicum

The main objective of the teaching practicum is to provide student teachers with authentic hands-on experience in teaching. This is required to develop their teaching skills and to start collecting experiences to enrich their professional wisdom.   It is not enough to read about teaching or to observe others teach, something students have done for years. Student teachers have to practice themselves because practical knowledge and wisdom are held by the individual and cannot easily be transmitted from person to person. Student teachers need know-how, and by connecting the skills of teaching to knowledge, through reflection, they will gradually start developing practical wisdom.

                                                                                                 

Procedures of practicum

First procedure, teacher must to know what the topics to teach, and choose teaching strategies. Teacher make lesson plan and prepare lessons and materials, and then teacher teaching manage class, after teaching, evaluation with supervising instructor.



Outcomes of practicum

The teacher becomes more trained in teaching, or create the right lesson plan, know the appropriate teaching methods used, can manage the class, manage time. There are outcomes of practicum:

1.      Based on the observation, we know the differences between education system in Indonesia and Philippine.

2.      Based on the observation, we can learn many things from this project so we can develop our education system in Indonesia.

3.      The Student teacher can integrate and colaborate the education system between two country to be better education system for the future.





The challenges of practicum

The challenges of teaching this time is how to explain the lessons in English, then how to control the class when the students are noisy, how to manage time. The biggest challenge of our practicum is about the number of Students. I think, There are too many Students in one class, that is handled by one teacher only. Sometimes, they are too noisy and I can’t handle them easily because we need to speak louder and focused them too. But, all of the Students in grade four can speak English well and it make our communication go in a good manner.



 Overall impression

Understand exactly what kind of teacher, understand how important teaching method, the importance of managing class and time. Lack when teaching. It was very great experience to teach the Students from the Philippines. I thought that they are very interested with us because it is new appearance to be taught by foreign teacher. Students in this Elementary School are very kind, clever, and well-understanding to the lesson.



 Suggestions for future improvement

Hope the teacher improve again English skills, continues practice to be a good teacher, can manage the class, manage the time and used various teaching methods and correctly.

Based on the observation during the 1st week of the program:


 Planning for teaching

       Planning is the best antidote for the nerves that many people feel when teaching a subject for the first time or meeting a new group of students. It is also the only way to ensure that your educational objectives are achieved. Planning begins with thinking about how you would like your students to approach their learning in your subject, and what you would like them to understand, know or be able to do by the end of the session. Whether you are planning a subject for the first time, or reviewing an existing subject it is important to consider the effects of your teaching and assessment on students' learning. The teacher have choose teaching method, make lesson plan before teaching



Preparing lessons and materials

All of the teacher in the Elementary School planed the lesson well. Some of them used manila paper, cartolina and also the other media to make instructional material, so that they can transfer the knowledge easily. They also decorate the Instuctional Material to make Students interest with their lessons. Beside that, the teacher used their laptop to present some pictures, asked the Students to guess it, and also used the speaker to sing.



Teaching in class

The teacher taught like the lesson plan, and teacher can manage class and time. Based on the observation, the teacher in Elementary School should be patient to handle their Students. They must do their best to treat the Students and also decrease the bad feeling to Student, like getting angry or shout to Student. When there was a Student don’t pay attention to the class, the teacher will stop a while and they treat the Student kindly without getting angry. The teacher often ask Student to answer their question, so all of the Students can answer the question one by one, not only for special Students. The teacher have some methods for their class like cooperative, inductive, experiment, and etc depended on their topic.

Before the teacher explain the final answer or information, they always let the Students to think, doing activity, etc. Those are the process to inform the Student about the topic, so they can learn fun and know the process to get final answer. That way is so suitable for Student growth, because they are still young and like to do many activities.

Based on the observation, we know that the Student teacher and the teacher work hard. They make Instructional materials every day and started their lesson at 07.30 am then finished at 04.30 pm. Before the Students entered the class, they always pray and greet all of teacher.



 Measurement and evaluation

Measurement from the quiz and evaluation in the last lesson. Based on the observation, after they finish to teach the Students, the teacher will give them assignment. The Students will submit their assignment for the next day. Most of Students in the Graciano Lopez Jeana School are smart. Most of them have passing the grade. Before giving them the assignment, the teacher will give the Students the quiz and evaluation. They should finish those before doing the assignment.

Based on the interviews with the teacher, is known that they have some kinds of examinations such as examination that held every quarter in the year and also National Achievement Test for grade six before they graduate their study to the higher level.

TEACHING PLAN AND TEACHING PRACTICE

Teaching plan or lesson plan is a detailed guide for teaching a lesson. It's a step-by-step guide that outlines the teacher's objectives for what the students will accomplish that day. Creating a lesson plan involves setting goals, developing activities, and determining the materials that will be used.

Curriculum

K-12's implementation began in 2011 when kindergarten was rolled out nationwide. It continued by fully implementing the system for Grades 1 and 6 during the school year 2012-2013, for grade 4 during 2016, and for grade 5 during 2017. In terms of preparing the resources, specifically classrooms, teacher items, textbooks, seats, and water and sanitation improvements, the following table shows the accomplished material from 2010 to 2014 and those planned for 2015.

If you want to tell some interesting information to your friend , you can write personal letter or friendly letter.

There are five parts when writing a friendly letter :
1.      The heading includes the sender's address and the date. The sender's address needs to be located at the top of the page in the center or at the top right-hand corner. The date needs to be located under the sender's address on the left-hand side of the page above the greeting.
2.      The greeting needs to be located under the heading on the left-hand side of the page. The greeting would include such words as Dear _____________.
3.      The body of the letter includes the message. It is written in paragraph form.
4.      The closing of the letter would include such words as Sincerely, or Your friend.
5.      The signature is your signed name under the closing.

So, I have here rolled paper with corresponding questions. Your leader will pick one and all you have to do is to answer it. I’ll give you 5 minutes to plan on how are you going to demonstrate your answer in class.

Yaaapsss ... the day I was waiting for finally came too. From that day and one week ahead I will teach grade 4, English subjects. Mam dely and the teachers at Graciano will judge my appearance. Honestly, I'm very nervous. I'm afraid that children can't understand my learning. I tried to do my best, and thank God I got good results and got good comment from the teachers and my cooperative teacher. The day before I taught, I worked overtime until 3 am. I have to write lesson plans and have to make media.

I wrote my lesson plan till 3 a.m

My procedure teaching 
  At the first I ask the students to cleaning around their by put several paper, candy wrappers, or the other trash and put them into the trash bin. Again, I ask to the student to ready with today lesson. After that I ask the leader of these class to lead us praying together before we start the lesson, the last I ask the secretary of these class to help me check the attendance by lead them writing the name and signature of student s in the paper then give it for me in the end of the lesson. And I give them motivation related with the topic and ask them to sing together and dance together. It will make them more refreshed and ready to receive lessons.
In the study step, I used a power point presentation with a projector. I showed several types of letters. I then asked them what the letter was and how we made the letter. After students answer these questions, we continue to discuss lessons ranging from the definition of letters and discus about the similarities and differences between official and unofficial letters. After that we continued to generalize lessons and discuss the reasons why we needed to write a letter
In Activities, classes are divided into four groups. I made a large letter media from Manila with some blank parts. Each group has the opportunity to read the big letters in front of each group and each group must explain what the letter is about and fill in the blanks
 At the end of the learning process I gave an evaluation of what they had learned that day. I gave them an evaluation of 5 questions about today's lesson and I asked them to make a letter.
This is my steps when I have teach in elementary school :
a.       Students do the greeting and pray together.
b.      Students attendance checked by teacher
c.       The teacher reviews the last topics and then give to motivational activity.
d.      Students discuss about the task given by teacher or problem solving
e.       The teacher explains about topics and ask to students
f.       Students answer the question
g.      Students do short quiz in the last lesson
I asked them to sing and dance togenther before the lesson began 


Time management and organizing activities

            In this elementary school, one lesson is for 1 hour. Every day we have different lesson that had been divided to all Student teacher based on their spesialization. Each lesson consist of 1 topic, so we can finish it in one hour. In the lesson plan, we spend 5-10 minutes for the opening and also give them the motivation. For the main activity, we take 35-40 minutes, and for the closing we spend 10-15 minutes. All of the timing depends on the topic of lesson that will be given for the Students. The lesson plan consists of Introduction, Motivation, Activity, Analysis, Generalization, Evaluation, Assignment.

Problem-solving
            The teacher give a problem and students make high thinking to solve it. Grade four is the grade that I teach. The condition is also different with the other grade. My Cooperating teacher said to me that the grade 4 is the most active Student among all the class. Sometimes they are noisy and did not focuse with their lesson. As a Student teacher, we should have innovatif methodes and strategy to solve this problem. In my demonstration, I used the song, clap, and always give them motivation as long as the lesson.  The other problems are in our communication. Indonesian people are not usual to speak english in our activities. But, the Philippines are usual to use English, so the Students communicate fluently with the other people. But, the Students teacher should be active to speak in English although we have different dialect.


 Classroom management
            The teacher needs strategies to manage class, so you will manage class, when you used the appropriate teaching method. For the classroom management, we always clean the floor, pray, and arrange the position of the Student’s seat. The class has their own group, so when the teacher wants to divide the class, the Students can make group directly without using many times. When they are noisy, we can stop for a while until the Students pay attention back to the teacher.
